Organizations across the Middle East are increasingly shifting towards a digital-first, cloud-based strategy. The rising pace of digitization has opened doors to frequent and more complex cyber-attacks. A telling statistic can be found in the increasing number of cyberattacks in the region. It is a 71% increase in 2021 (YoY), vis-à-vis a 50% increase globally.

Dharshan Shanthamurthy, Founder & CEO, SISA, said, “The AICS is a regional showpiece for cybersecurity, that brings together the innovative minds, decision-makers, thought leaders, policy makers and solution providers, who will discuss, debate and dive deep into the pressing issues and challenges confronting organizations today. SISA is really excited to be a part of this conclave and we look forward to expanding our contribution in the region through new partnerships and opportunities. We’d also like to congratulate the National Cyber Security Centre (NSCC), Kingdom of Bahrain and the advisory board for putting up this informative summit. “

The Middle East region has seen a barrage of cyber-attacks following the global pandemic, with countries such as UAE being the prime target. Amongst all the incidences, Ransomware has emerged as the main financial artery of the cybercriminal world, driven by the increasing number of initial access brokers who sell access to companies and the expansion of Ransomware-as-a-Service (RaaS) affiliate programs. Research indicates that 59% of UAE organizations were hit by a ransomware attack in 2021 and 84% of UAE companies paid the ransom in these attacks.

Commenting on the current threat landscape in the Middle East and the consequent challenges, Mahendran Chandramohan, VP – Managed Detection and Response (MDR) BU, SISA said, “The ransomware threat is clear and present.
